Karyn Jane was born and grew up in Brisbane. She fondly remembers her father telling stories when she was young, with the whole family and local kids excitedly gathering around to hear.
Karyn was inspired by her father to tell stories to the local kids she babysat, developing storytelling into a love of hers as well.
Karyn created Duddley Doo many years ago sketching a little mouse back in her early days at high school. She carried this little mouse with her into adulthood where she named him Duddley Doo, and started to tell her daughter about his adventures. This inspired Duddley Doo’s first Adventure!
Karyn realised it was time to publish “Duddley Doo’s Big Fishing Adventure” when a teacher read it, without any illustrations, to a grade one class. The class loved the story so much and asked where they could buy the book. The teacher explained that it was not yet published, that is why there weren’t any pictures. The children in the class then decided to draw their own pictures for Duddley Doo. This inspired Karyn to publish the story.
In order to ensure Duddley Doo came to life exactly how she imagined him for so many years, Karyn was involved in all aspects of this book’s production, from initial concept to completion. Karyn wanted a particular style, so she worked closely with the illustrator to create Duddley Doo and the characters and bring them to life.
Karyn loves to write about Duddley Doo and his adventures with his friends on Fig Tree Farm, and share them with as many children and families as she can.Hope you enjoy reading Duddley Doo’s Big Fishing Adventure as much as I loved writing it! Karyn xx
